Studying Estonian abroad

Estonian language and culture is taught in various institutions of higher education, general education schools, language courses, and supplementary schools in Europe, America, and Asia.

13 lecturers and teachers work outside of Estonia to ensure that Estonian language and culture is taught at high quality. More than 30 universities all over the world are part of the network of academic learning of Estonian language and culture abroad; about 1,000 students study the field.

Within the Compatriots’ Programme, the Estonian Institute helps organisations, educational associations, and schools of Estonians living abroad as well as international schools in organising teaching Estonian. More than 50 institutions all over the world are part of this network.

Teaching Estonian language and culture abroad is supported and organised by the Archimedes Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Research.
