Deferment in calling up for conscript service
Deferment means postponing the entry of a call-up selectee in conscript service for a specified time. The basis for granting deferment is constituted by the Military Service Act.
Depending on the type of the deferment, the call-up selectee must apply for deferment on their own or the Defence Resources Agency shall decide on granting deferment on the basis of a decision by a medical committee or the information in national databases.
The basis for applying and granting deferment may be:
- treatment of the state of health
- maintenance obligation of a child or a disabled relative
- acquirement of education
- membership in municipal council, Riigikogu, or the European Parliament.
The Defence Resources Agency shall make the decision about granting deferment. If the circumstances that enact as the basis of deferment are no longer present, the Defence Resources Agency must be notified of it in writing within 30 days.
Deferment is valid until its deadline or until the circumstances that enact as the basis of deferment are no longer present.
