Ordering the European Health Insurance Card
Persons insured by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund, who are staying temporarily in another Member State, receive required health care on equal terms to insured people living in such country. You can order European health insurance card if you have Estonian Health Insurance Fund insurance valid for more than three months.
The Estonian Health Insurance Fund issues the European health insurance cards for free. The European health insurance card can be issued for:
- your children (up to 19 year old).
Issuing European Health Insurance Card:
- Person at least 19 years of age – validity period of 3 years, but for no longer than for the presumable duration of the person’s health insurance
- Child of under 19 years of age – validity period of 5 years, but for no longer than up to becoming 19 years old.
The health insurance card can be received by regular mail within 10 days.
Order the replacement certificate of the European health insurance card if you are going abroad sooner than 10 days or if your health insurance is valid for less than three months. The replacement certificate will be sent to your state portal mailbox.
In addition, for ordering the replacement certificate call the Health Insurance Fund number +372 669 6630 (Service is available: M, T, W, T 8.30-16.30; F 8.30-14.00) or send e-mail email@example.comThe replacement certificate ordered by telephone or e-mail can be obtained by post or e-mail.
Using the European health insurance card or its replacement certificate is not allowed if the person does not have health insurance.
Estonian insured persons has the right to receive the necessary medical care with the European Health Insurance Card in the UK and the UK insured person has the right to receive the necessary medical care in the EU member states, including Estonia.
