Usage of personal data in the population register

The personal data usage service will help you see who and when has used your population register data.

The service will show you the queries made about you in the half a year. The extract will not show you large queries, for example, when a query has been made to the population register about updating all personal data in the eHealth information system.

The list of inquiries made in relation to a citizen appear in the State Portal eesti.ee within one hour of the inquiry time.

The population register is a database where the personal data of Estonian citizens and foreign nationals living in Estonia under a residence permit or the right of residence is entered. The data of the population register are constantly updated, for example, when births, deaths, marriages, divorces, and changes of residence are registered.

Population register data are used by the state and local governments for the performance of public duties, as well as by enterprises and private persons in the case of legitimate interest. In order to protect personal privacy, the usage of data is monitored by the Data Protection Inspectorate and the Ministry of the Interior. If somebody has established a restriction on access to their data in the population register, it will be issued solely for the performance of public duties. The issuance of data is regulated by the Population Register Act and the Personal Data Protection Act.

To get detailed information regarding a specific query, please contact the institution that made the query.
