Funded pension, or II pillar, is based on pre-financing: when you work, you build your own pension by contributing 2% of your gross wages (2%, 4% or 6% from 2025) to a pension fund or pension investment account. The state contributes to this an additional 4% from the 33% social tax calculated on the employee’s wages, which goes towards securing your personal future and this part is not paid out as state pension.

The II pillar allows the accumulated amount to be used for pension payments five years before or after attaining pensionable age.
