Successfully transplanted organs, tissues and cells are the gift of life.
While organ donation is important and can be life-saving, it is crucial to understand that it is a very personal decision. People should make their decisions about whether they want to become a donor based on their own beliefs, convictions and medical condition.
Transplantation is a field of medicine where not everything is dependent solely upon the skill of doctors. A lot depends on people who are prepared to save another person’s life by giving up something they no longer need. Donating organs and tissues after brain death is a good deed that improves the quality of life for many people in need.
For more information on organ donation, see the Organ Donation page.
Accurate knowledge of the body’s physique is now more than ever part of the fundamentals of medical treatment. Anatomy and histology play a particularly important role in a medical student’s entry into medicine. Medical students are understandably proud of this opportunity. Through their preparation, they will gain invaluable anatomical information and practical knowledge
Today, the Department of Anatomy at the University of Tartu receives its teaching material (cadavers) from people who have voluntarily donated themselves to the Department of Anatomy for the purpose of teaching.
For more information on cadaver donation, visit the University of Tartu Institute of Biomedicine and Translational Medicine.
