Different levels of defence readiness are in force in Estonia.
They are:
Increased defence readiness is a risk prevention phase, not a situation. In the increased defence readiness phase, the state’s command structure changes and certain restrictions on fundamental rights is allowed, although these restrictions are not as extensive as what might be imposed during a state of emergency or state of war. At the same time, structurally speaking, the increased defence readiness phase falls between a state of emergency and state of war, which means that if a state of emergency has been declared, the state uses the increased defence readiness phase to prepare for a streamlined transition to a state of war.
When the defence readiness level is raised, the support levels also increase. Starting at the increased defence readiness level, reservists are paid for their time of participation in reservist training as follows depending on the main category of their position:
Note: These sums are gross.
The Defence Forces provide first aid to all reservists and takes them to civilian hospital if necessary. It’s important to report health problems early.
At the reservist training, medical care is provided by the Defence Forces.
Free transport, lodging and meals are provided in the reserve service location.
