Disabled unemployed persons or job-seekers

If you would like to find employment or work but need assistance due to reduced capacity to work, the Unemployment Insurance Fund can provide assistance with services designed just for you. All of these services are available for a person with a disability, permanent incapacity for work or partial or no working ability that prevents them from securing employment or working. If you have no work ability you cannot use the work rehabilitation service.

  • Adjustment of workspaces and work equipment. The Unemployment Insurance Fund assists an employer in adjusting the working environment and equipment so that it is accessible to and can be used by disabled persons or persons with reduced capacity to work. 50-100% of the costs of the adjustment are compensated. Home workspaces can also be adjusted.
  • Granting assistive work equipment for free. If the performance of a person’s duties is restricted by the equipment provided by the employer due to the disability or decreased work ability of the person, they may be granted assistive work equipment until the end of their employment, but at first for no longer than three years. The contract for the use of assistive work equipment may be extended if the equipment remains necessary for the person to perform their duties. A person can apply for assistive equipment they need at work and in their daily life at the Social Insurance Board.
  • Working with a support person. This service is provided for persons who need assistance and guidance at work due to decreased work ability. The support person assists them in adjusting to the work and performing their duties. Upon agreement with the employer, the Unemployment Insurance Fund will organise the support person services and compensate the cost of doing so for up to one year.
  • Advising employers on recruiting and employing persons with special needs. If a current or future employer of a disabled person wishes to acquire additional knowledge on recruiting persons with special needs or the employment support service, the Unemployment Insurance Fund offers advice on these matters according to the needs of the employer.
  • Work rehabilitation. Work rehabilitation is designed for persons who face obstacles due to a disability or an illness and therefore need assistance from specialists on a rehabilitation team to restore or maintain their work ability. Work rehabilitation may be necessary in order to improve mobility skills or speech, learn to use technical aids or deal with psychological problems. Counselling may also be necessary to find motivation and boost self-confidence and to learn to cope with a disability or illness on a daily basis. If necessary, a rehabilitation team can assist a person in adjusting to working life and advise an employer on how to organise work better or adapt the working environment.
