In order to register a divorce, the first step is for the spouses to jointly submit a written application for divorce. When submitting an application the exact time is also agreed upon, when the spouses jointly go to be divorced at the authority that accepted the application. This time must be 1-3 months after the submission of the application.

You can submit an application to register a divorce with the vital statistics officer of the local government of the county center:

  • electronically in the e-population register
  • on paper in the local government of the county center, where you want to divorce your marriage. To submit a paper application, the spouses must go to the vital statistics officer together and fill out the application on the spot. To submit an application for divorce, see the website of the relevant institution for reception times and book an appointment if necessary.

For registering the divorce at the notary, you can submit a joint application for divorce at the notary on the spot or by remote verification. To submit an application to a notary, you must agree on the time with a notary or make an appointment through the self-service portal of the Chamber of Notaries.

For divorcing in court, the application must be submitted to the county court.
